What does this G-BOX actually do?

The G-BOX (Patented), is an optional Internet Video accessory that allows optimum performance on cable broadband service installations by establishing a point to point connection between the video camera and the PC. The G-BOX, designed to be placed between the cable broadband modem and router, segments the network, automatically detects and properly forwards the data intended for the VCAM1 or to the computer/router, as required.

Can the ISeeVideo Online system be set up as an off-premises Digital Video Recorder to record full time video?

No, the system is not set up for full time recording. It is designed to send 10 second video clips to the ISeeVideo Online server that are the result of triggered events such as movement in restricted areas, the opening of a protected door, disarming of the system, movement in a home, etc.

Does the ISee Video Online system require a Static IP Address?

The ISee Video Online system does not require a static IP address. It is designed to operate on a DHCP enabled network. When the system senses that the DHCP IP address have changed, the ISee Video Online system reports to a network of Dynamic Domain Name Servers (DDNS ) and identifies itself by a unique ID to the server to update the IP address.
  • Static IP Address - An IP address whose value does not change.
  • DHCP - Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, a protocol for assigning dynamic IP addresses to devices on a network. With dynamic addressing, a device can have a different IP address every time it connects to the network. DHCP also supports a mix of static and dynamic IP addresses.
  • DDNS – Dynamic Domain Name Server system. An Internet se rvice that translates domain names into IP addresses. Because domain names are alphanumeric, they are easier to remember. The Internet however, is really based on IP addresses. Every time you use a domain name, therefore, a DNS service must translate the name into the corresponding IP address.

My modem and router are integrated into one "combo" unit, how do I install the G-Box?

In many cases the G-box will autodetect the best way to connect and adjust automatically to the existing connection, sometimes if the modem/router combo has a DMZ port or connection, connect the G-Box on the DMZ port, then follow the installation instructions.

In some cases the modem/router "combo" has to be setup in "bridge mode", please check your device settings and/or consult with your ISP. In this mode the G-Box will provide all the "routing services" and PPPoE (if required).

My PC is connected to the modem via a USB connection. How do I connect the G-BOX to the modem?

Modems that have a USB connection typically have an RJ-45 port, but typically only one of them is allowed to be used and grant Internet connectivity. First connect the G-BOX to the RJ-45 socket on the modem. Connect the PC to the G-BOX using a USB to Ethernet adapter (if the PC does not have an RJ-45 network connection) and power cycle the modem, G-BOX and PC.

My DSL modem is connected directly to my PC and requires to initiate the connection from the PC (PPPoE), how do I setup the G-Box to do this automatically?

After you locate your PPPoE User Id and Password, consult you dealer/installer on how to access the PPPoE settings of the G-Box to this automatically for you. The G-box will also function as a router (share your internet connection among all the Pc's) and maintain your DSL connection Always ON.

I have a wireless router or another router connected to my broadband modem. How can I keep my network settings after the G-box is installed?

After the installation is completed, the G-Box becomes your "primary" router, you can connect any PC or devices on a unused port (including your VoIP adapter). Remember: a second router is NOT required to share your internet connection.

Advanced user note on avoiding IP conflicts: The G-Box factory configured IP is 192.168.8.1 and provides DHCP server service on the range of 192.168.8.201, 192.168.8.20x and up.

Do I still need a router to share my internet connection after the G-Box is installed?

After the installation is completed, the G-Box becomes your "primary" router, you can connect any PC or devices on a unused port. If more ports are required, a "network switcher" can be installed on any port for expansion.

My modem does not have an Ethernet (RJ45) port. How do I connect to the G-Box?

Most ISP's provide modems with RJ45 Ethernet ports (or both) with their service at no extra charge, please consult with your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

The PC does not have Ethernet (RJ45), what happens now?

Some USB to Ethernet adapters are compatible with the G-Box, even though an Ethernet port (adapter) is highly preferred to connect PC(s) to the G-Box.

I am a network expert, do I really need the G-Box? What are the advantages?

The G-box in general:
  • Segments the network, automatically detects and properly forwards the data to the customer’s computer/router, as required.
  • Eliminates the need to manually “Port Forward” the customer’s router
  • Provides expansion ports for other IP based devices
  • Functions as both a DHCP client and server, to fit seamlessly into all typical DHCP environments
  • Functions as a router with 4 auto-sensing LAN ports for connection to the customer's PC, router or other equipment
  • Allows installation on Cable, DSL, DSL Router/Modem combos, DSL PPPoE and Satellite systems
From the Security Industry (Corporate) point of view:
  1. The G-BOX is the ONLY device that provides true “Plug & Play” IP video installation and turns any installer into an IP Engineer (no need for network experts)
  2. The G-BOX allows the installer to complete the installation without re-configuring the consumer’s personal property.
  3. The G-BOX avoids potential corporate liability and privacy issues associated with the installers use of the consumer's personal computer as an installation tool.

What Video format are the video clips stored in? I can only view the clips online, after downloading them they do not seem to playback on my PC. Do I need a special Video Player?

As of December 2006 we started to adopt the Flash Video format for our recorded video clips. This format is becoming an optimized standard for web delivery that is functional on any web browser, independent of the OS platform.

Depending on your PC, OS version and Media settings, you may require to install an FLV codec for your Media Player. The easiest and fastest way: is to use a standalone Flash Video Player. There are many FLV players available, our customers our provided with a free download.

I have Cable Internet service. When I install the G-BOX, I lose my Internet connection. Why?

Typically, cable modems lock themselves to the MAC address of the router or PC that is connected to them. To unlock the modem and allow a new device to access the Internet, you typically need to reset the cable modem. To reset the modem, you must power it down for 15 minutes (depending on the ISP/Modem). After this, power up the G-BOX and then the camera to allow the complete system to reinitialize.
